Attorney M.C. Moore of Alliance addressed a gathering of more than 150 present and former teachers and students of Mt. Pleasant School at the third annual reunion Sunday at the school house near Yeagley’s corners.

C.E. Essick of Alliance, president of the Teachers and Students union, presided during the program which opened at 2 p.m. with "America". Edgar Walker and his daughter gave instrumental selections and an historical sketch of the school was given by L.J. Hawkins.

Harmonica and guitar selections by Vernon Hawkins were followed by an original dialogue by Grace Grimes and Margaret Flenniken. A number of teachers responded with short talks and readings were given by Miss Ruth Ann Euliss and Miss Lillian Moser. The Walker orchestra furnished music. Eulogies on the members who died during the past year were given. Mrs. Susan McQuilkin and Vernon and Lela Hawkins sang a duet.

C.E. Essick was reelected president during the business session. Other officers are O.C. Bates, vice president; Mrs. Alta Ruff, secretary-treasurer; and Miss Minnie Bates, assistant secretary-treasurer. The reunion will be held next year at the school house early in October.


O.H. Bailey of Alliance, aged 92, who taught at Mt. Pleasant school 73 years ago was present Sunday at the sixth annual reunion held at the school south of Alliance. He was one of eight former teachers present, each of whom gave a short talk.

Mr. Bailey had written a song "Mt. Pleasant School" which was sung by Mrs. Susan McQuilkin of this city. Approximately 125 attended the reunion and a basket dinner was served at noon.

O.C. Hahn of Alliance, president, welcomed the visitors and a program was presented by the school children under the direction of the teacher, Mrs. C.M. First. Marvin Hershey was program leader.

Following is the list of new officers: president, L.J. Hawkins, Alliance; vice president, Mrs. McQuilkin; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. C.M. First, Alliance. The reunion next year will be held the second Sunday in October at the school.

The following program was presented Sunday: Welcome, Janet Coss; piano solo, Barbara Byers; recitation, Dwight Myers; duet, Flenniken sisters; recitation, Barbara Byers; music, school orchestra; song, school; exercise, "Betsy Ross Making the Firsts American Flag" mermorial service O.C. Hahn and L.J. Hawkins, solo.
